The name “Mozambique” is supposedly gotten from the Swahili Musa al Big, the name of an Arab sheikh who lived on the northern Ilha de Moçambique when the Portuguese arrived in the area. Mozambique is located in Southeastern Africa and it is bordered by the Indian Ocean to the east and Tanzania to the north, South Africa to the south west and Zimbabwe to the west.
